Case study
A remapping specialist in Chester: third in the map pack five weeks after launch
A remapping specialist in Chester, on a new site we built and launched in July 2026, was third in the Google map pack for its main “remapping Chester” type searches by week five, and its clicks from Google were up more than 500% comparing the weeks after launch with the weeks before. The caveat comes first: a percentage from a standing start flatters, the absolute numbers are still small, and the competitive organic searches are not won yet. This is what happened, in order.

The starting point
A one-person remapping and diagnostics specialist working around Chester and into Cheshire. Before July 2026 the work came from a Google profile and word of mouth. The map pack for the main searches was held by established garages with far more reviews, and the business had no page of its own that explained what a remap involves or which towns it covers.
What we did
We built the site by hand in Next.js: a page for each service, a page for each town the owner drives to, a short guides section and a quote form that sends through our own mailer. Google's mobile test scores it 98 out of 100. The Google Business Profile was set up properly at the same time, with the right primary category, every service ticked and the real hours.
Then we left it alone for four weeks. Nothing is judged before it is a month old, because Google has not finished reading it, and we never touch a page that is already earning clicks.
The monthly retainer started on 21 August 2026. Month one was decided by Search Console, not by a plan written in advance:
- A duplicate town page for Chester was redirected into the homepage with a 301. It was being shown for the same searches as the homepage and losing every one of them.
- A new page for Heswall, because the data showed people on the Wirral side searching for a remap and no competitor writing for them.
- A guide on what decides the price of a remap. It explains the factors; it publishes no prices, because we never put prices in guides.
- Eighteen titles rewritten. They were being cut off in the results and repeating the town name.
- Per-page areaServed schema, so each town page tells Google the area it is actually about instead of the same list on every page.
What happened, with dates
The site went live in July 2026. By week five it was third in the map pack for its main remapping searches, checked by eye on a phone in Chester, not by a rank tracker. Comparing the weeks after launch with the weeks before, clicks from Google were up more than 500%.
Read that with care. The starting figure was tiny, so the percentage looks bigger than the number of extra customers behind it. The competitive organic searches for the city are still not won, and on a new domain we expect three to six months before they are. The map pack position also depends on reviews, which the owner collects, not the website.
What it cost the client
Money: the retainer is £200 a month, from 21 August 2026. The build was a separate fixed price agreed before we started.
Time: his went on answering our questions about the jobs he does and the towns he covers, sending photos of real work rather than stock images, giving us access to the domain, the Google profile and Search Console, and asking customers for a review at the end of a job. We wrote every page; he checked the facts.
What we would do differently
Two things, both ours. We would not have built a separate Chester page in the first place: the homepage already covered the home town, the two pages competed from day one, and month one of the retainer was partly spent undoing that. And the titles would have been kept inside sixty characters on the first build rather than fixed in a batch of eighteen later. Both are now rules for every garage site we build.
What happens next
We read Search Console every month and act on what it says. If a month is quiet, the report says so. The next figures go on this page when they exist, with the same caveats. If you want the same order of work for your own garage, start with the free audit and quote.
