AEO for garages: the driver asks an AI which garage to trust, and it answers with names

“Good independent garage near Chester for a Golf with a DSG judder?” typed into ChatGPT gets a short answer with two or three garages, a sentence on each and the sources it used. Google's AI does the same above the map. AEO is the work of being one of those names: a consistent record everywhere the engines look, pages they can quote, and mentions from sources they already trust.

Engines we work for

  • ChatGPT
  • Google AI Overviews
  • Google AI Mode
  • Gemini
  • Perplexity
  • Microsoft Copilot
  • Claude

Each reads a search index, Bing for ChatGPT and Copilot, Google for the rest, then writes an answer. Get the record right in both indexes and the engines follow.

Six steps

How a garage gets into the answer

In this order, because the early steps are cheap and the late ones only work once the record is clean.

  1. 1

    Map the questions

Drivers do not ask an AI for "garage Chester". They describe the car and the noise. We build the list of the questions asked about your services in your towns, from a DSG judder to a failed MOT on emissions, and keep it current.

  2. 2

    Make the record consistent

Google Business Profile, the DVSA MOT listing, the booking platforms, the directories: one name, one address, one phone, the same categories and hours. Engines drop garages whose details disagree.

  3. 3

Write pages that can be quoted

A page per job that answers in the first sentence, explains what decides the price, and names the town. Marked up with AutoRepair, Service and FAQ schema so a machine reads it the way a driver does.

  4. 4

    Open the doors

AI crawlers allowed, an llms.txt file, no firewall rule quietly blocking them. Checked every month, because a hosting change can undo it without anyone noticing.

  5. 5

    Earn the mentions

Reviews that say the job and the town. Listings on the sites the engines already cite. A local mention when there is a real story. The engines trust what other people say more than what you say.

  6. 6

    Ask the engines and report

Every month we put your prompts to each engine, record which garages are named and which sources are cited, and put it in the report next to the Search Console numbers.

Search and answers

What changes when the result is a paragraph

Most of the work is shared with ordinary SEO. The difference is the finish: a page has to be clear enough to quote, and the garage has to be mentioned by sources the engine already believes.

Plain speaking

What it is worth to a garage this year

The MOT and the service still come through the map, and will for a while. The AI answers send the driver with a specific fault and a specific car who has already decided to pay a specialist. Fewer enquiries, bigger jobs, and a channel that is growing every quarter while most garages ignore it.

Included in every tier on the pricing page. This site scores 100 on the AI-readiness check in Quence; yours takes a minute.

  • Prompt list for your services and towns, kept current
  • AutoRepair, Service and FAQ schema on every page
  • llms.txt and AI crawler access, checked monthly
  • DVSA, booking platforms and directories made consistent
  • Reviews asked for with the job and the town in them
  • Monthly prompt check and AI referrals in the report

Questions garage owners ask us

Are drivers really asking ChatGPT for a garage?

Yes, and the questions are better than search queries: the make, the fault, the town, sometimes the budget. It is still a smaller channel than the map for MOTs and servicing, but the driver asking an AI which specialist to trust with a gearbox is a high-value job, and that is where the answers matter.

What is the difference between AEO and GEO?

None that matters to a garage. Both describe the same work: being the source an AI names and cites. We call it AEO because a driver asks a question and gets an answer.

Can you promise ChatGPT will name my garage?

No. The engines choose and they change. We can put you in every source they read, write the pages they quote, and show you month by month which prompts name you and which do not.

Does my website need rebuilding?

Only if a crawler cannot read it. A booking-platform page or a one-page site with everything on it usually does need a proper set of job pages; a decent site needs markup, an answer-first rewrite of a few pages, and the profile work.

How is it measured?

A monthly prompt check run by a person and written down; referral visits from chatgpt.com, perplexity.ai and the others in Analytics; and the AI-readiness score in Quence, our free audit tool.

What does it cost?

Nothing extra. It is part of every tier on the pricing page, because the pages, the schema and the mentions are the same work done properly.

Ask us what the engines say about your garage

Send the garage name and the town. We put your customers' questions to the engines, record who they name and what they cite, and send it with the quote.
